Are
you ready for your teen to meet new people and build a successful
future for themselves?
"Positive Choices has been a wonderful experience
for me. The staff is wonderful; Jessica
and Adan make everyone
feel comfortable, and that really helps. It’s
good to be able to associate with people who share similar
values. The program has really helped me to refrain
from having sex and realize that sex before marriage
isn’t worth having a kid or getting an STD."

Are you ready for your teen to meet new people
and build fulfilling life long friendships?
"Positive Choices is a program devoted entirely
to the well-being of teens, provides a safe place to
go every week and gives teens the opportunity to help
mentor youth. It has taught me a lot about life and
has helped me find myself; I like to think that I am
a better person because of the program. I have met so
many different people and built a lot of great relationships.
Positive Choices is a wonderful program to be a part
of and I encourage everyone to join."

Cheri Christopher Meets President Bush
Student Positive Choices mentor and leader, Cheri Christopher, met the president in 2004.
During his visit to Dayton in May 2004, President Bush met with Christopher and learned about the Positive Choices program from the 17-year-old student leader.
During the meeting in Dayton, she exhibited her leadership and mentoring skills to President Bush. In December 2004, she was the only teenager to be invited by President Bush to attend the Whitehouse Holiday Celebration.
Christopher was one of three honorees in the Coalition for Youth Enrichment Walk of fame. She was nominated by Jessica Salinas-Henry, a teen counselor at the Positive Choices program. |
What lesson did you
learn at Positive Choices that made the biggest impact on
your life?
Is your teen ready to grow as a person
with strong character?
I was introduced to Positive Choices in the eighth grade.
I am now a sophomore in college and I believe that Positive
Choices played a big part in that. Positive Choices helped
me stay on the right path and make good decisions that have
allowed me to continue my education. I am so grateful for
Positive Choices.

“Steve” shared his desire to re-enroll in our teen
program. He shared some of the trouble he’d been throughout
the past year:
- trouble with the law
- suspensions from school
- bad relationships
He claimed without the consistent support
and direction of the Positive Choices program, and specifically
his mentor, Adan, the potential for trouble was too much to
avoid.
“Shaniqua” had attended Positive Choices for
two years when she began hanging out with girls who were sexually
active. She began to feel the pressure, but claimed she wanted
to remain a virgin. “Shaniqua” took this information
to her new group of friends, who in turn began to alter their
behaviors. The influence, support and good information for
making positive choices is often an ever-widening circle,
influencing not only the participants but those around them.
Are you ready for your teen to take their future
in their own hands?
"I thought that the positive choice
week was very educational. I also thought it was worth the
time because we need to know these things so we don't get
hurt or die. I'm glad we had these "talks" because
I learned a lot and it might help me some time in the future.
I liked the speakers. They knew what they were talking about
and they didn't seem like "Oh yeah this is so boring"
which I liked."

"I thought Positive Choices week was very informative
and needed our time. The speakers were very good at the task
given them to do."

Are you looking for something rewarding
in life for your teen?
"I thought it taught us all things
that will help us in the future. I thought it was good to
have kids that are going through this to talk about it to
make us pay more attention. I thought that Positive Choices
was very fun. I learned a lot. Someday I hope that I could
be a speaker. I liked the choice of being abstinent. I would
like to follow after the speakers that spoke this week."

Is your teen ready to make good decisions
now to ensure they'll make good decisions later?
"I thought that Positive Choices was very informative.
I think in the future when we are all in high school we'll
look back on this and it will help a lot of us make the right
choices."

"I thought the Positive Choices was a good experience.
It showed us the consequences of sex and because of that I
will probably be much more cautious."

"I think Positive Choices was a great program, we were lucky to be able to have the opportunity of having the people come in and talk to us about the dangers of having sex. I never thought of it that way with all the diseases going around. But, I'm glad to say I'm abstinent."

Is your teen ready to learn a new perspective?
"I thought Positive Choices week was very interesting.
I have a whole different perspective about having sex before
I get married. They really made it fun and easy to learn about
the things they taught us about. "

"I thought that the Positive Choices program was
very interesting. I think that the speakers did a very good
job at getting us to understand about abstinence and other
important information that could save our lives. I also thought
that the activities they planned helped us to learn about
making positive choices. They did a good job at explaining
STD's to us and helping us to understand that sex should be
saved for marriage. Because of Positive Choice, I know now
more fully understand how to deal with the pressures of sex
in high school and even after that."

Is your teen looking for
a better path in life?
"I thought that the Positive Choices program was very
informative. It taught us about very important issues, like
STDs and other consequences about having sex before you are
married. It showed how important abstinence is and that we
should practice abstinence. It was a good program for teenagers."
