Positive Choices
A Program Helping Teens Become Their Best!

The choices you make now will determine your future. Positive Choices has helped over 25,000 young people learn decision-making skills that have had a positive impact on all aspects of their lives. Here are some questions asked by teenagers about the program:

Positive Choices is a program for 12 to 18 year old girls and boys and their parents that encourages abstinence from sexual activity until marriage. But it’s about a lot more than sex. It’s about learning to respect yourself and others. And it’s about learning how the choices you make impact your life forever.

There were more than 700 babies born to teens in Lucas County last year. Do the math. That’s 2,100 teens (mom, dad and baby) whose lives will never be the same again. Plus there’s the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. A list that’s long and scary, some of which have no cure. Get the point now?

It’s a chance to stand out from the pack. It’s a chance to stand up for yourself. It’s a chance to be smart and responsible. It’s a chance to make decisions about your life instead of just letting things happen. It’s a chance to hang out with others who are just as smart as you are.

That’s up to you. We do a lot of cool things at Positive Choices. We go places, we get involved in activities both at school and in the neighborhood, we spend time hanging out with each other just talking and having fun, and we listen and help support each other.

The men and women who run our program are educators, specially trained to present this kind of material to kids and parents. Sometimes it’s hard for teens and parents to talk together. But having the support of the educators at Positive Choices makes things a lot easier. And since they’ve worked with teens for a long time, not much surprises them! Plus well-known agencies, community centers, churches and schools, including St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, support it.

No. You’ll also meet our teen leaders. They are high school and college students who can explain why abstinence was a good choice for them and how it can work for you. They’ve been in the same place that you are, so they know what they’re talking about. In fact, you might consider becoming one of teen leaders in the future.

We talk to parents and explain everything about the program so they understand what’s going on. We even have a group just for parents to get together. We also like to invite them to some of the activities so they can get involved too.

Are you ready to try a new way of doing things? To make new friends? Then we’re ready to answer all of your questions. First, share this brochure with your parent or guardian and talk it over. Then have them give us a call.
